| To all Garland Fire Fighters Community Interest Committee (GPAC) members,
This has been a busy year for the GPAC. The PAC Board has held several meetings to make an attempt to be involved in the local 2009 elections for city officials in Garland. Election day is May 9, 2009, and there are four City Council seats up for election (Districts 3,6,7 and 8) as well as the Mayors office. There are no contested races for the City COuncil seats. There are three candidates running in the Mayor's race. The GFFA E-Board has sent out questionnairs to the three Mayoral candidates, the E-Board is waiting for the responses then they will try to meet with each candidate prior to making an endorsement.
The Garland Fire Fighters Community Interest Committee is well funded and positioned to have a significant impact on the local political scene now and in the future. As many of you know, getting TMRS / COLA is one of the main benefits that we are pursuing, but we can't lose sight of how valuable it is to have friendly voices on Garland's City Council that are willing to have an open dialogue with the GFFA. The PAC's goal is to support the efforts to make sure this is a reality. The PAC Board members have and will continue to conduct ourselves on both ethically and morally as we pursue these goals.
With only one contested race this election cycle, the PAC Board will begin to work on reward or clothing items for PAC members based on the contribution levels. I will need to get T-shirt sizes for the PAC members soon. There will be more information about what the items will be following the next PAC meeting which is scheduled for April 14, 2009. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please get them to me within the next couple of weeks for them to be considered.
The Pac Board would like to thank each and every PAC member for contibuting to this cause.
Thank you and be safe,
Eric Brown
